For the cover shot of our latest issue, i was asked to shoot some of the stars of the boxing team. I thought I was going to have more time. Regardless I was happy with this little impromptu portrait of Thomas Gennaro. Not perfect lighting, but I wanted a grungy feel to it.
Strobist info:
one sb-800 on each side and another 800 held high above on a boom by my assistant.
I am not a very big baseball fan. But when I get the email announcing media day.... Yeah...
Media day for the baseball team was not the media circus that I was
expecting. I was the only photographer there. Even still I did not want
to take long. This was my fav out of 4 frames.
Strobist info:
Main light was 2 sb-800s in a umbrella, another sb-800 for a side light, for some texture and mood.
This was my very first attempt at a remote camera from start to finish. The overhead remotes are much easier, put camera down, and focus. For this one I had to clamp to the tower two magic arms. make sure everything was safe and secure. Then i decided to shoot with my 35mm F2, which gave me the field of view I wanted. but such a small DOF. I had not strobes so I could not stop down. I shot the whole game at F2.2.... I liked a few of the pictures. Here is one for your viewing pleasure.
When I found out that the Harlem Globetrotters were going to come to town. I could not wait, I remember seeing them when I was a like 8. I was very surprised that there was not a bigger turnout. It was more of a show then a game, however everyone had a good time. I knew there was going to be plenty of dunks, so I took advantage of the small crowd, and placed myself in the right spot for this picture. A spot that was very inconvenience during a regular season game.. It was a fun game/show to shoot, you had to pick weather to follow the action or the antics..
When I found out she was comming to my club, I really could not wait. My whole goal was just to get my picture taken with her. But I am really crazy shy. So I got some help. after that I was even able to pull her aside for a quick picture. She was one of the nicest guests I think we have had Then I always dance (if you can call what I do that) on the open stage when no one is on it.. and I found someone dancing with me. It was Tara.. Fun night. wish all nights could be as good as that..
I got a call this morning that woke me up. After an unusually long night at All City Live... I was asked if I could come take a few snaps of Bill Clinton, while he was speaking for Hillary's Campaign.. I raced up there thinking I was going to be late... I really should have known, those things never start on time.
I had the oppertunity to stay at this very nice place in Mexico, loved it. One of the nights there, I staked out this spot and waited for the right light. I thought I did ok... I like hotels that light there own exterior, makes it easier... anyway if you ever get the chance to stay here I would jump on it, and make sure to visit the pool bar.
I am not an abstract photographer. I admire those people that can see art in buildings, but only to an extent, you getting to artsy on me and start writting artist statments and you will have lost my interest. Still, I was reshooting a series with a friend and was able to get a little art myself... C&C welcome
Let me start by saying that I am not a snowboarder. I used the board because at the time, that was all we had with us. I got the idea in my head to clamp the camera to the end of the board and slide down a small hill. I did a few trial runs without the camera everything was working. so I mounted the 10.5 on the camera, locked in, and slid off.... now for some strange reason, snowboards are smooth. (I have no idea why :) ).... but the clamp and the camera started to slide, and it turned my camera into a snow plow.. I was not very happy about that. I would have liked a little more motion blur, but I was happy none the less... Next time I will do it right and use some skis....
I had heard these guys before, but never really had a good chance to photograph them till they were playing at All City Live at the GSR... the band was great, I wish more people would have come out to see them... But the small crowd made it easy to move around...
Strobist Info: My favorite combo for club shooting, on camera strobe on TTL for fill. always ajusting the compinsation, and attached to that is a PW setting off another strobe stage lefft up on the Dj booth... looking at the shots I picked most all were taken with no on camera fill
